18000teu super large container ship TOFD inspection project was initiated and prepared in early 2014. In October of the same year, the TOFD inspection process specification passed the final review of Bureau Veritas (BV) and began on-site inspection. In March 2015, all TOFD inspection work was completed. The weld length was 488 meters, and the integrity of image data acquisition was higher than 98%. The records were clear, detailed and traceable. In the process of joint tackling key problems, Shanghai Shipbuilding Engineering Quality Inspection Co., Ltd. and Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Company worked closely to solve many technical problems and achieve many industry initiatives by using the technical resources of China Shipbuilding Industry nondestructive testing center, focusing on the quality standards, equipment selection, process formulation, Atlas interpretation and other aspects of TOFD inspection of high-strength ultra thick plate welds. Its testing process and results have been unanimously recognized by BV and the ship owner, and achieved good results. industry experts believe that the success of this subject indicates that TOFD nondestructive testing technology has officially moved from the scientific research stage to the application stage in China's shipbuilding field, and the relevant testing ability and level have also reached the world-class level, which adds a scientific method and means to the shipbuilding quality control, and lays a solid foundation for the construction of 20000teu super large container ships and high-end marine products
